Z Agra Sikandra 1

The tomb of Akbar – the most notable of all Mughal emperors,  was built in the early 17th century. The tomb sprawls over a massive 119 acres of land. Interestingly, the construction of the tomb was started by Akbar himself in around 1600 and was completed by his son Jehangir. The tomb is located in Sikandra near the tomb of Miriam (the wife of Akbar), at around 8 km from city centre.

The mausoleum is constructed out of red sandstone and is decorated with marble artistry thereupon. The designs used are geometric, floral and calligraphic. The tomb is particularly important for those who have interest in history and architecture.
