Station: Agra (Uttar Pradesh)
The Agra Fort was originally built in bricks by Hindu Sikarwar Rajputs. The fort was later used by Sikandar Lodhi and then by Mughal emperors.
The fort is spread on over 94 acres of land in a semi circular plan. There are four gates from each side including the famous Dilli (Delhi) Gate and Lahore Gate. Delhi Gate is the grandest and considered to be a masterpiece from Akbar’s time. Also prominent is the inner gateway called the Hathi Pol, marked by two life size stone elephant statues with their riders.
Agra Fort is situated at mere 2.5 km from Taj Mahal and is an important monument that should not be missed.
