ABOUTAfter Mt Everest was conquered by Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary in 1953, there was a spike in keenness towards mountaineering. With the impetus provided by the then prime minister – Mr Jawaharlal Nehru, this institute was established in 1954 to promote mountaineering as an organized sport. Interestingly, Tenzing Norgay was the first director of the institute. 
ENJOYHMI offers many adventure sports in various difficulty categories. There are even courses for mountaineering and trekking to become a professional. The Tenzing Memorial, Darjeeling Zoo & Bengal Natural History Museum are worth visiting as well. HMI Restaurant and Tea Parlor serves breakfast, lunch & snacks including Chinese specialties.
