Batasia Loop

West Bengal (North Eastern Himalayas)

LOCATION20 km from Darjeeling
ABOUTBatasia Loop is a lovely flowering garden with a toy train track laid surrounding it. Apart from the natural beauty and view point, Batasia Loop is also an engineering marvel. After the station of Ghoom, there is a sharp fall as the track leads to Darjeeling. The loop was engineered in 1919 to negotiate this sharp descent, and one can’t even notice how the train descends about 140 ft as it completes the loop.
ENJOYThe spot offers an unparalleled 360 degrees view of Darjeeling region and snow covered peaks of Himalayas including Kanchenjunga. At the centre of the loop is the War Memorial that was opened in 1995 to commemorate the Gorkha soldiers of the region, who have sacrificed their lives in various wars after Indian independence.
