The Compelling Legend

The temple is steeped in a fascinating mythological tale. According to scriptures, Lord Brahma was to perform a great yajna (fire sacrifice) at the Pushkar Lake. The auspicious moment was arriving, but his wife, Goddess Savitri, was delayed. To proceed with the ritual, Lord Brahma married a local maiden, Gayatri. When Savitri arrived and saw another in her place, she was enraged and cursed her husband that he would only be worshipped in Pushkar. She then retreated to the highest hill nearby, Ratnagiri, to perform penance. The temple now stands at this very spot, a testament to her devotion and power. It is a local custom to visit the Savitri Temple before paying respects at the Brahma Temple.

The Ascent: A Journey for Everyone

Reaching the Savitri Temple is an adventure in itself, offering two distinct experiences:

The Pilgrim’s Path (The Trek): For the devout and the energetic, a flight of over 650 well-laid steps leads to the temple. The climb, which takes about 45-60 minutes, is a rewarding journey, offering increasingly spectacular views with every step. It is a popular belief that the effort taken to climb these stairs adds to one’s spiritual merit.

The Scenic Ride (The Ropeway): For a comfortable and equally scenic journey, a modern ropeway (cable car) is available. The 6-minute ride provides a stunning bird’s-eye view of Pushkar Lake, the surrounding temples, the bustling town, and the vast desert landscape, making it a memorable experience for all ages.

Location	Situated on Ratnagiri Hill, to the southwest of Pushkar Lake. The base is easily reachable by foot or auto-rickshaw from the main market area.

Best Time To Visit	At sunrise or sunset
Visitor Tip	Whether you choose to trek or take the ropeway, be sure to carry water. Also, be mindful of the monkeys in the area and keep your belongings secure. Wear comfortable footwear for the climb.
