Nahargarh Fort

Location: Jaipur

Perched dramatically on the ridge of the Aravalli Hills, Nahargarh Fort forms a majestic northern backdrop to Jaipur. Meaning the “Abode of Tigers,” this grand fortress offers more than just a glimpse into the past; it provides a stunning panoramic vista of the entire Pink City, especially breathtaking at sunset.

Architectural Marvel & Historical Significance

The fort was primarily constructed in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur. Though it never faced a direct attack, Nahargarh served a crucial role alongside Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort, forming a strong ring of defence for the city. The fort’s extended walls connect to Jaigarh Fort, showcasing the strategic planning of the Rajput rulers. It also served as a retreat for the royal family, particularly for hunting expeditions.
